About

Welcome to Scent Free Girl, a blog about overcoming chemical sensitivity, healing mind, body and spirit, and all things fragrance and chemical-free. Here you will find information about chemical sensitivity, the dangers of synthetic fragrance and chemicals, products that are fragrance-free, chemical-free and healthy for your body and your home.

I used to use scented body lotions and sprays and clean my home with toxic cleaning products. I loved to burn scented candles and I never once thought about all of the chemicals I was inundating myself with.

I became sensitive to synthetic fragrances over seven years ago. I started a new job in the corporate office of a staffing agency. I was assigned to share a cubicle with a girl used mango scented body butter from The Body Shop. Every time she applied her lotion I got an instant headache and my sinuses started to ache. Because she was unwilling to stop using her lotion I asked to be moved, but I was soon ostracized by her friends in the office. They applied perfume around my desk, on my office chair, and on the handles of my car. I soon noticed that I was becoming dizzy and getting headaches and sinus pain from all kinds of other chemicals that had never bothered me before. I became sick from the air fresheners in the bathroom, the various personal body products of my co-workers and the cleaning products used by the cleaning crew. I stayed for a month trying to make it work, but because co-workers and the human resource department were unsympathetic and unwilling to help I quit my job.

I decided to start this blog to help people like myself who have been negatively affected by today’s massive onslaught of chemicals. I don’t have the answer to everything and I am not a doctor or medical professional. Any advice or recommendations are to be followed at your own risk. This blog is for information purposes only. Please consult your doctor if you have any questions.

I review and recommend products that are fragrance-free but not necessarily chemical free. There are non-toxic products and there are less toxic products. Some products and ingredients are not suitable for everyone. Please research ingredients.

I am not paid to endorse any products. I do not receive free items and everything I review is done so at my own expense. Unless otherwise stated, no company I write about endorses or is to be held responsible for the content of Scent Free Girl.
